Of all the styles, airport style is perhaps the hardest to master (well, at least in my opinion it is).
I never know what to wear when I am travelling. There are a few things that I do know for sure when it comes to flying; Firstly, it has to be something dark (getting off an aircraft with juice that the kids have spilled down your white ensemble is not a great look) secondly, it has to be something that doesn’t crease easily (nothing worse than looking like a crumpled mess when you arrive at your destination) and lastly it has to be something comfortable (a 5 hour flight with a 2 hour stopover and then another 14 hour flight surely requires something that is not going to feel like its suffocating you, right?). Having said all of the above I DON’T want to compromise on style and I DON’T want to freeze to death while I am mid-air, but then don’t want to suffer a heat stroke when I arrive at my sunny destination either.
I have visions of myself walking off the aircraft ‘Rosie-like’, you know… with the hat and the leather pants and blazer and perfect hair but let’s be frank, these are only visions, unless of course you are flying first class in which case they give you designer pj’s to slip into as soon as you take-off. I see the celebrities striding through airports in their 10inch Louboutins and their gorgeous Hermes belts and luxe trenches but seriously, THIS IS NOT REALITY PEOPLE!
So, as I embarked on the search for the perfect airport/airplane outfit I quickly discovered how difficult it was going to be. Everything comfortable looked drab and everything I wanted to wear was definitely not going to be feasible for a 24 hour journey. I was stuck… somewhere between a pair of Frame denim jeans and some slouchy pants from Country Road. Time was running out, what was I to do?! I bought the Frame jeans… and the slouchy pants from Country Road, and then went home and stood in front of my wardrobe for an hour looking at all the options to put with either of these pants. There was nothing.
So I stacked all the possible outfits in a pile in my theatre room next to the packed suitcases and decided I would figure it out 5 minutes before we leave. It’s either going to be my best idea yet or… well, to be honest I just don’t want to think of the ‘or’.
