When I think of pearls my mind immediately goes to Coco Chanel dressed in black, draped in pearls. This season I love the way pearls were reinvented at Chanel, still classic, still chic and oh-so glamorous.
Because this season has been so fabulous I have about a thousand items on the must-have list, so the great giant Chanel pearl necklace (while extremely beautiful) has taken its position at the bottom of my list – insert sad face. Of course I couldn’t just leave it at that so I decided to have a go with a DIY.
Okay so here it is… my version of the Chanel pearl necklace. It costs under $20 and takes very little patience but you do have to wait for glue to dry overnight.
You will need:
2 x Swarovski Pearl 16mm (I used white but you can use any colour of your choice and I wanted to use larger pearls but I couldn’t find any)
2 x ball end head pins gold plated
2 x filler beads (antique daisy gold)
1 x neck ring gold 120mm
Hypo cement glue
Start by cutting the ends off of the neck ring.
Apply glue to one end of the neck ring and insert the end halfway into the pearl, do the same on the other side and allow to dry completely overnight.
Next, take the head pin and trim it and add the filler bead. Put glue on the head pin and insert into the pearl, add a small amount of glue to the top to secure, do the same on the other side and allow to dry completely.
Not too bad for a DIY that costs under $20!
Until next time…
